‘I told kids to jump to their deaths’

Robert Palme; 7/7/09

The spotlight on the shocking murders of four children at the weekend near Mt Hagen in Western Highlands Province has turned  on the father. Police and medical authorities are to investigate claims that he was a drug addict and had neglected his family for too long and that this had brought on the killings, allegedly done by his wife who “could not take it anymore’’. Western Highlands police commander Kaiglo Ambane said the accused as well as the husband would be taken for medical  examination to deter-mine if allegations that they were on drugs were true or not. The wife, Elis Anis, who was still in a state of shock and traumatised by the tragedy, has allegedly told police and a senior government minister that she took the lives of her children because the husband had in her view neglected them.
