Zarqa resident receives reduced sentence for killing brother

Rana Husseini; 4/8/08

The Criminal Court handed a 23-year-old Zarqa resident a reduced sentence after convicting him of stabbing his brother to death over an argument concerning a TV programme earlier this year. The defendant, A. A., was initially handed a 15-year prison sentence for the manslaughter of his 18-year-old brother in the living room of their home in a Zarqa suburb on February 8. The court decided immediately to commute the sentence to half because the victim’s family dropped charges against the defendant. The defendant and the suspect were watching TV around 10:30pm when an argument ensued between the two over which channel they should watch, the court said. “The victim wanted to watch football and asked the defendant to switch the channel, but his brother refused,” the court said.
