Morobe Province will see a more focused campaign against domestic and sexual violence in the coming 12 months. The campaign, to be spearheaded by the Women’s and Children’s Support Centre with the Angau Memorial General Hospital, has received K85,000 from the Australian Government’s grant for human rights work to support the centre’s work. The centre, set up by the Lae branch of Soroptimists International, an NGO, will also be supporting the centre in this campaign aimed at changing attitudes at home. According to a press statement, the campaign will involve working with Morobe’s legal fraternity, police, teachers, government employees and church elders on strategies to handle issues relating to domestic and sexual violence.
