The traditional marriage is making a comeback, but not for all women - only those who are better educated.New research reveals that while the rate of marriage continues to decline in Australia - mainly due to the steady increase of de facto partnerships - marriage levels for women over 30 who have a tertiary qualification have stabilised. The study, Partnerships at the 2006 Census, to be published this week, blows apart the traditional academic assumption that highly educated women are likely to be less inclined to marry. In 1996, these women were less likely to have a husband than women without a post-school qualification - but by 2006 the reverse was true.
