Two-year-old contracted STD

Police are investigating the sexual abuse of a two-year-old Aboriginal girl who contracted gonorrhea. The sexually transmitted infection was discovered after the child’s mother noticed a discharge in her daughter’s nappy early last month. But police in Western Australia’s Kimberley region said yesterday that finding the perpetrator would be extremely difficult, because it was not known when the girl may have been assaulted or who had the opportunity to take advantage of her. Detective Sergeant Graeme Johnston of Derby police said the toddler, who is cared for by her parents, lived in an “open community” on the outskirts of Fitzroy Crossing, 2500km northeast of Perth.

A Teenage has been charged with the rape of a seven-year-old boy in far north Queensland. The 14-year-old is expected to appear in Cairns Children’s Court on Tuesday charged with rape and deprivation of liberty and two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12. The teenager was arrested late on Monday after police received a statement from the alleged victim over an incident that occurred early last month. Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Horan said the boy was allegedly raped after he had been playing with other children at schoolgrounds south of Cairns. It would be alleged another child witnessed the incident, he said. Neither the name of the school nor the suburb in which the incident occurred can be reported as it might identify the alleged victim. Sergeant Horan said the seven-year-old had received medical treatment after the alleged assault. The teenager is under supervision.
