Turkish warplanes and artillery bombed dozens of Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq after an escalation in rebel attacks, the military said yesterday. In Istanbul, police on Saturday captured a Kurdish female would-be suicide bomber with about nine kilograms of explosives in a suicide vest in the Sisli neighbourhood, Governor Muammer Guler of Istanbul said. Kurdish rebels have carried out suicide bombings in the past. Also in Istanbul, dozens of Kurdish protesters clashed with police, throwing firebombs at some shops, police said.
