The murder of a child almost always makes the entire country skip a heartbeat, especially if news of the death is preceded by the child’s disappearance and extensive searches. During the past 30 years dozens of children have disappeared or been murdered in Israel. Many of these cases remain unsolved to this day.

Mother drowns son on Bat Yam beach

A Rishon Letzion woman suspected in the drowning death late Thursday night of her 4-year-old son was arraigned on Friday and ordered to remain in custody for 10 days. Olga Borisov, 42, allegedly drowned Alon Borisov at a beach in Bat Yam. Ilan Yehuda, 40, Borisov’s husband and the boy’s father, was released from custody yesterday afternoon although the investigation against him is continuing. He is suspected of failure to prevent a crime, negligent homicide and being an accessory after the fact. He may be charged for leaving the boy with his mother despite a previous attempt to harm him some two months ago.
