Professor Ian Anderson is apologising for having noble aims. He is sitting in his office after spending several minutes going through all the different hats he wears. “I have a few overlapping roles,” he says wryly. The foundation chair for indigenous health at Melbourne University, director of the Centre for Health and Society, founder and head of the Onemda VicHealth Koori Health Unit, former federal government adviser (and so on …) is now hailed as one of indigenous Australia’s most influential behind-the-scenes leaders. “I want to dedicate myself to finding ways to eradicate inequality,” he says. “Now that sounds profoundly arrogant! I don’t mean it to.”
