Religious Leaders Denounce Female Infanticide - India/Womens Rights
30/1/08
Female feticide is a crime against God and humanity, and needs to be curbed urgently, representatives of various religions said at a recent meeting. Nearly 200 people representing Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism attended a lecture on female feticide held on Jan. 20 in Bhopal, capital of Madhya Pradesh state, 745 kilometers south of New Delhi. Sarokar (concern), an NGO working among women and children, organized the program at which speakers expressed concern that female feticide is increasing in India. Due to the number of selective abortions of female fetuses, use of prenatal sex determination for the purpose of abortion is now a penal offense in India.
