Patricia Karvelas; 27/5/08

The federal Government is resisting pressure to compensate victims of the Stolen Generations three months after Kevin Rudd delivered his historic apology in parliament. The Prime Minister yesterday marked National Sorry Day by unveiling a calligraphic manuscript of the apology, which will be displayed in Parliament House in Canberra. The Government will next month meet members of the Stolen Generations and health, trauma, child protection and family reunion specialists, “to map a way forward together”.

The mother she buried years later was a woman she had hardly known, and her father died before Ms Kerr could be reunited with him.
