Mother reunites with ‘babies’ after 40 years

A Western Highlands mother who lost her three ‘babies” to an Australian father 40 years ago lived on to meet them yesterday in a special reunion at Sigmil, outside Minj in Western Highlands yesterday. Her twins were taken to Australia in the late 1960s by their father, leaving mum Kopan Amb Opo back in the Highlands. She says the husband, a teacher in those days, left without saying a word. Yesterday, the reuniting was treated in Highlands fashion with her greeting the long-lost twins as her people numbering a thousand acted as if they were in mourning for the “lost’’ children, returning home. Kopon Amb could not believe when she was told that two of her children were coming to meet her after their father left with them from Kundiawa in the late 1960s. She fulfilled the dreams she always had in the last 40 years to one day meet her children before she dies.
