Israel is at the receiving end

George S. Hishmeh; 9/7/08

Israel has done a remarkable job of winning international, especially American, support for its cause but it has failed miserably in making its case to Arab, particularly Palestinian audiences. Understandably, it is in an uphill fight to convince Arabs, especially Palestinians, that they should accept Israel’s takeover of Palestine when the Jews owned less than 10 per cent of the former British mandate. In the 60 years since its establishment, Israel has managed to gain control of 78 per cent of historic Palestine. In the meantime, Israel has been recognised by many countries although an alternative idea for a unitary state for Palestinians and Israelis has been lately gaining ground.
