The health, education, home ownership rate and employment of Australia’s indigenous people are improving but they are are still dying 17 years earlier than the rest of the population. A new report shows the rate of infant mortality in indigenous communities is falling but is still three times as high as the rest of the population. Aboriginal adults are likely to live about 17 years less than the general population, according to the report on health and welfare of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders by the Institute of Health and Welfare.
