Hello possums: little creatures could pose a big threat to Packer’s ski plans

Fears for their future … a population of pygmy possums, which are endangered, inhabits the Mount Hotham area. Memo to James Packer - don’t forget the tiny endangered mountain pygmy possums. That is the plea from envi-ronmentalists as Australia’s second richest man positions himself to take control of Victoria’s Mount Hotham and Falls Creek ski-fields. The possums, which weigh up to 45 grams and can fit in the palm of a hand, are said to be under threat over the planned Hotham alpine village redevelopment.The Victorian National Parks Association has expressed concerns about the development’s impact on the possums’ habitat, though developers deny they will be affected.
