Hand out grog and you’re bound to spoil the child

A few years ago I returned home to Australia from several years overseas, accompanied by my 14-year-old son. It proved to be a pretty scary thing, coming back to your own country and observing the heavy drinking culture that surrounds our young people. I was stunned to find that not only were 14, 15 and 16-year-olds regularly drinking grog at parties, but many parents were adopting a relaxed attitude to the whole thing under the argument that “you have to teach your kids to drink”.
