Funding ‘falls short’ on indigenous needs

The Northern Territory Government has defended its commitment to improving education and housing standards in remote communities after its budget spending was attacked as falling far short of the levels required to address indigenous disadvantage. The federal Government has provided $793 million in grants for fixing decrepit housing and building houses on 20 remote communities, but the Territory budget, handed down yesterday, revealed that little of the money would be spent on remote housing construction in the next financial year.
