Downer attacked by PNG over aid - Australia

One of Papua New Guinea’s most senior politicians has branded Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer paternalistic and negative after it was revealed his country would no longer be the chief recipient of Australia’s foreign aid. In last week’s budget, the Government announced a significant increase in aid to Indonesia, relegating PNG to second place after 30 years as Australia’s largest aid recipient.
