Commissioner calls for wider investigation of child abuse

John Wiseman; 8/4/08

Commisioner Ted Mullighan has flagged the need for his investigation into the sexual abuse of indigenous children to be widened beyond Aboriginal lands in the north of South Australia. The advice to the state Government is contained in a little-noticed section of his voluminous report on sexual exploitation of children in state care, tabled last week in the South Australian parliament. Mr Mullighan warns that a state-wide investigation of sexual abuse of Aboriginal children is needed, based on information provided during his three-year inquiry. “This is important information that requires extensive investigation,” he says in his report.
