Celebratory atmosphere on Sorry Day
Frank Walker; 25/5/08
National Sorry Day tomorrow will be an optimistic celebration, not the expression of anger and frustration that has marked the previous 10 years, its leaders say. A march through Sydney’s heart - from Hyde Park down Mac-quarie Street to Circular Quay - will launch a week of cultural events and meetings around the country, focusing on how to achieve national reconciliation between black and white Australia. Reconciliation Australia director Shelley Reys said the change in mood since Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s national apology in February to members of the stolen generations had lifted the nation.
