Car blasts in Iraq kill more than 50

16/4/08

Car bombs yesterday ripped through crowded areas at lunchtime in the former Sunni insurgent strongholds of Baqouba and Ramadi, killing more than 50 people in one of the deadliest days in Iraq in months. One car bomb targeted a police patrol in central Baghdad. It killed four civilians who were passing and wounded 15 others, police said. The first attack occurred in Baqouba, 60km northeast of Baghdad, when an explosive-laden car parked in front of a restaurant exploded just before noon across the street from the court house and government offices in the city centre.
