The Federal Government must face up to its human rights responsibilities and resettle in Australia any Sri Lankan asylum seekers it approves for refugee status, a refugee advocate says. Immigration Department officials have promised a group of Sri Lankan men, detained on Nauru, that the first decisions on their cases will come by the end of the week. However, a spokeswoman for the Minister for Immigration has confirmed “if the men are found to have claims for refugee status they will be resettled in a third country”.
