Burma ‘jailing more activists’ - AI Report

Myanmar’s military government has jailed dozens of political activists since November despite promises to a UN envoy that it would halt such arrests, human rights group Amnesty International has said. London-based Amnesty said on Friday that some 96 activists had been detained since early November – when the promise was made – taking the total number of political prisoners held in Myanmar’s jails to 1,850. “Rather than stop its unlawful arrests the Myanmar government has actually accelerated them,” the group said in a statement.
