AWB left out of accredited wheat exporters

Five companies have been accredited to export Australian wheat in a newly deregulated market — but the former monopoly holder is not one of them. Australian Wheat Board was stripped of its monopoly — known as the single desk — in the wake of the Iraq scandal in which the board was caught paying kickbacks to the regime of Saddam Hussein. Industry regulator Wheat Exports Australia yesterday named five companies that had been accredited as exporters in the new system. Cargill Australia, Elders Toepfer Grain, Goodman Fielder Consumer Foods, Grain Pool and OzEpulse have won the right to export wheat.
