Abuse at St Stanislaus College ‘involved night orgies’

Angus Hohenboken; 28/8/08

Orgies involving up to 60 schoolboys, priests and teachers are among allegations levelled at former staff members of a NSW Catholic boarding school. The Seven Network last night reported claims that nine former teachers and priests from St Stanislaus College in Bathurst, in eastern NSW, had committed sexual abuse on students during “hypnotic” night prayer services in the 1980s. An alleged victim, whose identity was withheld for legal reasons, said the number of victims involved in the encounters had grown over time. “It started out on a one-on-one basis and then in small groups of between eight and 12, and then on one occasion there was a large group of at least 60.”

For years Father Brian Spillane presided over a flock of young, impressionable boys at St Stanislaus College in Bathurst. A chaplain and a teacher, he officiated at school Masses, led the pupils in prayer and gave them religious guidance. According to allegations by 13 former students, he also repeatedly raped them.

One Response to “Abuse at St Stanislaus College ‘involved night orgies’”

  1. Stanislaus student Says:

I attended this school for 6 years as a boarder, I was there during the time these crimes were supposed to have occured, I know all the men charged.
This is simply not possible, 60 students, what rot. (there were only a couple of hundred boarders altogether)

As a boarding student, you live in each others pockets, everyone knows everything about each others whereabouts, all the time.

The beds were 3 feet apart in the yr 7 dormitory where this student resided, 60 students to go missing for these “meetings” is simply ridiculous.

I would sneak to the ref to ‘borrow’ an ice-cream and get busted EVERY TIME and that was the level directly below the dorm. If you went anywhere, others knew, always.

An isolated case is of course, possible but that is the world in which we live and we shall see the outcome of this case.

The student making these claims and others involved that attended the school have very little credibility. I know for a fact that one of these past students has already been arrested for making threatning phone calls over political beliefs.

I hope the media coverage of the outcome is as comprehensive as the initial media circus was, and includes a psychological evaluation of the student(s) making these claims.

    we shall see.
